Holiday Run

Did the Holiday Run on Sunday out at Pioneers Park. They use the 5K course that the cross country racers use out there...Great hard course.

This is a great event that Ann from Lincoln Running Company and Lincoln track club put on every year as kind of a end of year fling. Normally a low key event where for 10.00 bucks you get a pair of cotton gloves and a gift that you pick up along the trail. Gifts can be anything from gloves, stocking caps, gels, etc and this year she gave away shoes too...There is also great cookies and hot coco for after the race.

The big bonus is all the proceeds go to the Capitol Humane Society. There were roughly 200 entrants this year so this was a nice bonus for the Society. What a great cause.

There was no chip timing…it is a low key event...but this year Anne and the crew managed to put times with places. They were frantically pulling the tear away bib section and sliding it on a wire as runners crossed the line...Usually they don't worry about official timing at this race…it’s for fun…But I guess when you get Levi Ashley, Ryan Salem, Parker Schoen (Class A cross county champion) Brian Wandzilak, Tom Nicols, Plus some Team Nebraska Girls, maybe doing timing is a good thing. Everyone always likes to know how they did.

Levi kicked arse. 5:15 pace, Ryan Salem was 2nd and star pupil of his (Ryan was the assistant coach and is taking over as the new head Cross country coach at Lincoln SW replacing Ted Larson who is retiring this year.) Parker was third…I Don't think he's ever ran that course out there as fast as Levi did.

Kicking it in for 6th place was our very own Darin S. with Tom Woods slotting 7th with Brian Kelly bringing in 8th place. I was in the mix early on, but succumbed to the Team Nebraska girls. Sarah Glatt brought home 9th place, followed by 3 of her teammates. The girls can boogie...

I was pimped at the line by 15 year old Andrew Schulenburg- think the kid is in 9th grade - ending up in 14th with a time of 19:46. I'll take it...this course kicks my butt.

Followed up the run with a jaunt through Wilderness to loosen up the legs...felt good to cruise the park...Saw MG, and Winklepleck out there as well. Trail remains in top condition.

Abigail had a Basketball game in the afternoon...The girls played great, but couldn't make baskets...kind of crucial part of the game. First loss of the season.
